Education in El Paso is the largest single employer in the city with government jobs running a close second. Both the El Paso Independent School District and the Ysleta Independent School District hire more people than any private entity. The University of Texas at El Paso, Socorro Independent School District and the El Paso Community College also contribute significantly to the economic stability of the area. Fort Bliss civilian employees accounts for the second-largest employment opportunity in El Paso, with city and county governments combining to round out the majority of the top ten employers.
Wal-Mart is also a major economic factor in the area, as is tourism and service industries.
