El Paso has several noted colleges and universities, and higher education is important to many of the residents on both sides of the US/Mexico border.
- El Paso Community College: This is touted as “the best place to start” and offers a series of Associates Degrees as well as a core curriculum for transfer to a four-year university.
- University of Texas at El Paso: There are six schools in this university offering more than 150 undergraduate and graduate degrees, from environmental science to creative writing.
- Texas Tech University: The El Paso campus is a thriving health sciences and medical center with a number of clinics around the city, focusing on areas that have inadequate health care services.
- Border Institute of Technology: Courses here are specially structured for those non-traditional students and students seeking career-oriented studies.
- Career Centers of Texas: The El Paso campus offers classes that are arranged to get students quickly trained for specific jobs, rather than offering traditional four-year degrees.
